Ovaries are two peanut size fertile organs of women locating in a women’s pelvis, on each side of the uterus. Ovaries have the important functions like production of female hormones and eggs. Types of Ovarian Cancer :

The types of ovarian cancer are categorized according to the nature of cells.

  • Epithelial ovarian cancer : It is the most common type of ovarian cancer and 90% ovarian cancer is reported of this type. It grows in the epithelial cells that lie it comes from cells that lie on the surface of the ovary. It is specially the cancer of older woman.
  • Germ cell ovarian cancer : It develops in the ovarian cells that produce eggs. Germ cell ovarian cancer is seen mostly younger women.
  • Stromal ovarian cancer : It occurs in the cells of ovaries that produce hormones. One of the main symptoms of this cancer is the high excess of female hormones.

These three types of ovarian cancer are further divided into several sub types. The risk factors are old age, family history of ovarian cancer, longtime use of the infertility drug, clomiphene citrate, without getting pregnant, a diet high in animal fats, etc.

Symptoms of Ovarian Cancer :

Ovarian cancer is called silent killer as only in the severe stage, the symptoms occur. However, it is proven now and most women may have symptoms in the initial stage. The symptoms of ovarian cancer that generally occur include :

  • Abdominal swelling/Bloating
  • Gastrointestinal Symptoms (such as gas, indigestion, nausea, or changes in bowel movements)
